A big shift is taking place in Malaysia’s home-based Internet business. Gone are the days when home business was often a dubious multi-level marketing scheme. That’s not the case for now!

Today top entrepreneurs like Warren Buffet, Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki are highly recommending network marketing companies; what’s more, Forbes Magazine has predicted no less than 79 million home business starts over the coming three years. This is the boom industry of today.

The Internet businesses, besides generating good incomes, are proving to be popular with moms and women who do not have much time for conventional businesses besides taking care of their kids or works.

Various studies found that many types of businesses could be carried out via the Internet in Malaysia thus far, ranging from apparels e.g. tops and bottoms; beauty products e.g. contact lens and cosmetics, to food and health products.

Blogs, Facebook and MySpace are among the common social networking sites for home operators to promote and take orders from customers.

A Malaysian housewife at the age of mid-30, graduated with an Information Technology Diploma from local University in Kuala Lumpur, said her gross monthly income from health product sales via her blog could generate five figures. She has got into the business when she stumbled upon a health product on the Internet and became a customer first before deciding to be a distributor. According to her, as an active blogger nowadays, she found it convenient to conduct her business on the Internet … whenever, wherever.

Another Malaysian young Internet entrepreneur aged at 28, a housewife with a Diploma in Management Technology (Accounting) from local university who retails ladies fashion from Taiwan. She cited, “online business gives me the flexibility to manage my time as a mother and housewife and saves the cost of operating a brick and mortar”.

We are indeed in a revolution now.

The last revolution was the industrial revolution. Should we consider now as the information revolution or probably the “work from home revolution”. Nonetheless, we sincerely advise the online business entrepreneurs to be serious and not to jeopardize the interest of the genuine operators with fraud practice, poor customer service and/or inferior products.
